In 2025, Congress adopted H.R. 1, or the "Big Beautiful Bill." The legislation created the "Federal Education Freedom Tax Credit," a new program that allows taxpayers to direct a portion of their taxes to an education-related scholarship granting organization of their choice. Until Congress provides more shape around the program, Superintendent Reykdal is encouraging Governor Ferguson to not opt Washington in. In this video, the Superintendent describes what the program is (and isn't), how Congress will pay for it, what Congress could have done instead with the funds, and more.
