Student Teacher (Pre-Residency) Clearance

The Pre-Residency Clearance application is for educators who are currently enrolled in an approved teacher preparation program and preparing to begin field experience, such as student teaching, in Washington PK–12 schools. 

In-State

Requirements

• Program approval (contact your institution's certification officer for the approval process)
• Submission of fingerprints for a background check is required if a valid Washington certificate is not already on record

Out-of-State

Requirements

• Must indicate enrollment in a state-approved educator preparation program through which the candidate will be placed in an internship with a Washington PK–12 school (4050E-Teacher Program Enrollment Verification) 
• Submission of fingerprints for a background check is required if a valid Washington certificate is not already on record
