Anyone who identifies as military-affiliated personnel will receive an expedited review of their application, and once minimum requirements are verified, expedited issuance of an appropriate permit or certificate (Chapter 18.340 RCW–Military Spouses-Professional Licensing).
Out-of-State Military Affiliation
Military-affiliated personnel and their spouses may apply for a Residency, Initial, or Professional certificate issued by OSPI under WAC 181-79A-257(3).
Requirements
- A copy of a valid, in good standing, full out-of-state teacher, administrator, or educational staff associate certificate equivalent to Washington’s regular, full certificate for the role.
- Submit fingerprints for a background check if you do not already have a valid Washington certificate on record
Other Routes to Meet Certification Requirements
If military-affiliated personnel or a spouse does not hold a valid, in good standing, full out-of-state teacher, administrator, or educational staff associate certificate equivalent to Washington's regular, full certificate for the role, they may obtain a certificate through the following traditional routes.
Teacher
- Residency Teacher Out-of-State
- Career and Technical Education Applicants
- Internationally Trained Applicants
