First Peoples' Language, Culture and Oral Traditions Certification

This application is for educators who have completed a language/culture teacher certification program offered by a sovereign tribal government.

First-Time Requirements

• Completion of a sovereign tribal government's language/culture teacher certification program 
  • (4024-First Peoples' Language, Culture, and Oral Traditions Application)
• Must present evidence of good moral character and personal fitness
• Must attest to completion of a course or coursework on issues of abuse and emotional or behavioral distress in students  (WAC 181-79A-200).
• Submission of fingerprints for a background check is required if a valid Washington certificate is not already on record

Renewal Requirements

• Completion of tribal continuing education requirements
  • (4024-First Peoples' Language, Culture, and Oral Traditions Application)
• Must present evidence of good moral character and personal fitness if the applicant does not hold a valid Washington educator certificate at the time of application
• Submission of fingerprints for a background check is required if a valid Washington certificate is not already on record
