OSPI recognizes schools through a number of state and federal programs.
Schools that receive the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) Distinguished Schools award demonstrate a wide array of strengths, including team approaches to teaching and learning, focused professional development opportunities for staff, individualized programs for student success, and strong partnerships between the school, parents, and the community.
The U.S. Department of Education's Green Ribbon Schools Program celebrates schools and districts making significant progress toward, reducing environmental impact and costs, improving the health and wellness of schools, students, and staff, and providing effective environmental and sustainability education, incorporating STEM, civic skills, and green career pathways.
The U.S. Department of Education developed the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program to recognize public and private K–12 schools based on overall excellence — academically or on their progress toward closing achievement gaps.
