Washington state schools are selected by their State Education Agency for the ESEA Distinguished Schools Award. There were four recipients of the 2022–2023 ESEA Distinguished Schools Award, two schools were selected for national recognition and two schools were selected for state recognition. The schools chosen for national recognition will be honored at the National ESEA Conference.

These schools demonstrate a wide array of strengths, including team approaches to teaching and learning, focused professional development opportunities for staff, individualized programs for student success, and strong partnerships between the school, parents, and the community. What makes ESEA Distinguished Schools’ stories especially powerful are the documented student achievement gains that have resulted from their collaborative and targeted efforts and innovations.
