Data submitted by local education agencies (LEAs)—including school districts, state-tribal education compacts, and charter schools—are essential for OSPI to administer apportionment and nutrition programs, monitor student, school, and program performance across Washington, and fulfill various other operational and reporting requirements.
This is a resource for school districts and LEAs, and includes key reporting timelines, links, and highlights about data collections across OSPI. Dates shown are subject to change. Please watch for updates from teams for the latest information.
The Comprehensive Education Data and Research System (CEDARS) data reporting by local education agencies is a key way OSPI tracks and measures the progress and performance of Washington’s students, schools, local education agencies, and programs.

Data Notes provide explanations about OSPI data collections and programs. This section helps users understand what data is collected, why it is collected, upcoming due dates, important context, and where to go for more information.
| Data Notes | Date | Subject |
|---|---|---|
| PE Program Review Data Collection | April 2026 |
School districts are required to conduct an annual review of their physical education programs and submit the results to OSPI (RCW 28A.230.055). Much of this is collected through other collections, and the remaining items are collected through the Physical Education Program Review data collection. This is due June 30, 2026. It is important that someone with a districtwide view of the Physical Education program complete this; this may be a district's Curriculum Director/Learning and Teaching Director or Physical Education Specialist. |
| Educational Technology Data Collection | April 2026 | The Educational Technology Data Note explains that OSPI annually collects essential information about technology infrastructure, cybersecurity, emerging technologies, instructional needs, mobile devices and mobile device policies, and EdTech classroom assessments. These are used to meet several legislative requirements and guide the efforts of OSPI’s EdTech team. This is the Educational Technology data collection. This collection opens April 16, 2026 and is due May 31, 2026. |

Reminder: OSPI School Safety & Security Staff Data Collection |
April 2026 |
School districts are required to annually report school safety and security personnel data. This is a supplemental collection to data reported through CEDARS and the S-275 reporting system. RCW 28A.320.1241 |
| HIB Prevention Program Data Collection | March 2026 | School districts are required to provide OSPI a brief summary of their policies, procedures, programs, partnerships, vendors, and instructional and training materials prohibiting harassment, intimidation and bulling (HIB). RCW 28A.600.477. |
Due dates are subject to change.
Collections are managed in EDS, a centralized suite of web-based applications critical for reporting. This system is maintained by OSPI and is administered locally for each LEA. There are over 60 web-based EDS applications, and access is managed locally by district data security managers using EDS Administration.
Detailed information about creating EDS accounts, available user roles and how to administer security roles in school districts can be found on this page.
Find user guides for applications within the Education Data System (EDS). These applications are only accessible to those with access through EDS.
Other Collections include Transportation, Facilities, High School Student Directory and more. Details about these are communicated from OSPI to LEAs throughout the school year.
In some cases, additional collections are managed outside of EDS using surveys, forms, and other tools. These do not collect identifiable information and are often used to understand program implementation. OSPI strives to keep these to a minimum, and to bring these into EDS wherever possible. Grant reporting requirements are specified in grant materials.
