African American Studies Workgroup

The African American Studies Workgroup was created in 2020 to develop recommendations for integrating, in a regular and ongoing basis, African American history. This includes examinations of racism and the history of the civil rights movement into curriculum, provided to students in grades seven through twelve.

Children & Families of Incarcerated Parents Advisory Committee

The Advisory Committee's task is to gather data related to children of incarcerated parents, identify programs to serve their needs, and to eliminate policy (and other) barriers that prevent a child from receiving support.

Compensation Technical Working Group

The Compensation Technical Working Group was created by ESHB 2261 and is tasked to create an enhanced salary allocation model aligned to educator development and certification with compensation, conduct a comparative labor market analysis of employee salaries, determine the role and types of bonuses available and account for regions of the state where it may be difficult to recruit and retain teachers.

Ethnic Studies Advisory Committee

The Ethnic Studies Advisory Committee was charged with identifying and making available ethnic studies materials and resources for use in grades kindergarten through twelve. The Legislature states that, "A basic education is an evolving program of instruction that is intended to provide students with the opportunity to become responsible and respectful global citizens..."

Expanded Learning Opportunities Council

The Expanded Learning Opportunities (ELO) Council is charged by RCW 28A.630.123 to advise the Governor, the Legislature, and OSPI regarding a comprehensive expanded learning opportunities system.

K-12 Basic Education Compensation Advisory Committee

Legislation passed in 2021 directs the OSPI to convene a K-12 Basic Education Compensation Advisory Committee to develop recommendations to the Governor and the legislature that supports recruiting and retaining a multicultural and multilingual educator workforce.

Language Access Workgroup

The Public School Language Access workgroup was created to improve meaningful, equitable access for public school students and their family members who have language access barriers, and report findings and recommendations to the Legislature.

Race and Ethnicity Student Data Task Force

The Race and Ethnicity Student Data Task Force was created in 2016 to review the U.S. Department of Education 2007 race and ethnicity reporting guidelines and develop race and ethnicity guidance for the state.

Salary Grid Workgroup

EHB 2242 Sec. 905 requires OSPI to convene and facilitate a stakeholder technical working group to develop a model salary grid for school district use in developing locally determined compensation plans for certificated instructional staff.

School Day Task Force

The School Day Task Force was created in 2018 to make recommendations to define the duties and responsibilities that entail a "school day" under the state's statutory program of basic education.

Sexual Health Education Workgroup

The 2019 Legislature tasked OSPI with convening a workgroup to review sexual health education curricula and the 2016 Health Education K–12 Learning Standards. The workgroup was tasked with considering revisions to sexual health laws as well as the merits and challenges of requiring all schools to offer comprehensive sexual health education to students in all grades by September 1, 2022.

Staffing Enrichment Workgroup

Legislation passed in 2018 directed OSPI to convene a technical workgroup, including representatives of diverse school districts and education stakeholders, to review the staffing enrichments to the program of basic education detailed in section 904 of EHB 2242. Final recommendations from the Workgroup were provided to the education policy and operating budget committees of the Legislature on December 1, 2019.

Student Discipline Task Force

The Student Discipline Task Force was initiated in 2013 to develop; Standard definitions for causes of student disciplinary actions taken at the discretion of the school district, and data collection standards for disciplinary actions that are discretionary and for disciplinary actions that result in the exclusion of a student from school.

Transitional Bilingual Instruction Program (TBIP) Accountability Task Force

In the 2014 Supplemental Budget, $117,000 of the 2015 general fund was directed to OSPI to convene a task force to design a performance-based assistance and accountability system for the Transitional Bilingual Instruction Program.
