Exam based dual credit allows a student to take an exam (AP, IB or CI) and apply to receive college credit with a score of 3 or better (for AP), a score of 4 or better (IB), and E or better (CI).
Exam Fee Subsidy Program
Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill (ESSB) 5998 provides $1M in funding to cover dual credit exam fee subsidies for students from families that qualify for low income supports in 2025-26 and 2026-27. Subsidies for AP, Cambridge, and IB exams taken by students from low-income families will be administered through Form Package 686 in EGMS. The grant application release date will be announced through the Dual Credit Updates newsletter.
Eligible local education agencies (LEA) will be able to apply for grants to recover local funds used to subsidize exams taken by students from low-income families or reimburse eligible students/families who paid for those exams while the subsidy program was suspended.
Unlike past years, grant applications will be required for AP exam reimbursement in 2026. The deadline for indicating all students' fee reduction status in AP Registration and Ordering is April 30, 2026.
