Open Educational Resources (OER) are teaching and learning materials with a license that allows them to be freely and legally used, adapted, and shared. They include flexible units and lessons, videos, activities, and other supports.
Educators use OER to:
- Adapt materials to meet student needs and local contexts
- Shift costs from content acquisition to other important areas supporting teaching and learning such as instructional support and professional learning
- Provide equitable opportunities to access high-quality instructional materials for all students
Featured Resource: Washington OER Hub
The Washington OER Hub brings standards‑aligned K–12 OER together in one searchable online library—created by and curated for Washington educators.
Use the Hub to browse by grade, subject, or Washington state standard, download materials to use as‑is or adapt for local needs, and explore standards‑aligned, openly licensed instructional resources.

- Providing direct district support (one on one, virtual, or in person)
- Offering webinars and professional learning
- Participating in statewide and regional conferences
- Partnering with districts to support sustainable OER use
- OER Funding Opportunities
-
OSPI offers Open Educational Resources (OER) Project grants or contracts to support the development, adaptation, and sharing of openly licensed instructional materials aligned to Washington state learning standards.
This funding helps expand the availability of high‑quality OER in priority content areas and supports educator collaboration across districts.
Funding opportunities are offered periodically and updated as they become available.
