Department of Health License Hours as Clock Hours Information

Under WAC 181-85-077, educators who hold a Washington State Department of Health (DOH) professional license may use the continuing education credits, clock hours, or CEUs required for that license to meet Professional Educator Standard Board continuing education requirements.

Eligibility

To qualify, the educator must hold a valid Washington State Department of Health license that requires continuing education. The list of health licenses below is NOT exhaustive.

Educators with other than the above Washington licenses DO NOT require continuing education to maintain their professional health license and may NOT use continuing education units (CEUs), credits, or clock hours accordingly.

National Certifications that Meet Renewal Requirements

Educators may also use the following valid national licenses in place of approved clock hours for renewal:

  • American Speech and Language Association license (ASHA)
  • Nationally Certified School Psychologist license (NCSP)
  • National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS)

Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) Renewal Available

Educators may use hours earned to renew their BCBA certificate from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB).
