Andres' career in education started when a perceptive aunt encouraged him to apply for a paraeducator position. Immediately, he knew he had found his calling. Andres' passion for serving students and families is informed by his own family's Mexican American migrant background. It gives him a personal connection to the challenges faced by students of color, migrant students, and those in poverty. This connection drives him to provide a voice for students – especially when it comes to equity of access. Andres is committed to community engagement and empowering student and family advocacy.
Andres says, “The most important part of my job is making sure that the technology is less of an "arms race" of the latest and greatest tools, and more of a methodical practice with skill-building and engagement driving the process. It should be a construct for all not just for those that would naturally succeed.”
