Certificate Types

Initial - This is the first-tier certificate that an educator can apply for if they have completed either the university route or the business and industry route program and hold the required experience.

Renewal of Initial - Select this if you have previously held or currently hold an Initial CTE Certificate.

Continuing - This is the second-tier certificate that an educator can apply for once they have held an Initial CTE Certificate and have met the requirements to upgrade their certificate.

Renewal of Continuing - Select this if you have previously held or currently hold a Continuing CTE Certificate.

Adding a CTE Certification Vocational Code (V-Code)

Conditional* - An educator can work with a state of Washington school district or skill center that wants to hire them for a position based upon their experience and expertise in a specific specialty area. This certificate must be initiated by a school district on the educator's behalf.

Initial/Continuing Career Guidance Specialist - Select this if you hold or have held a one, three or five year Career and Technical Educator certificate in Occupational Information Specialist or the one, three, or five year Career and Technical Educator Counselor certificate.

CTE Director - Select this to learn more about gaining or renewing the CTE Director Certificate.

* Limited certificate. If an educator is eligible to hold a full teaching certificate, then they would not qualify for any of the Limited certificates.
