Requirements
Initial (Superintendent)
- Completion of a master's degree from an accredited college/university
- Completion of a state-approved superintendent preparation program
- Submission of fingerprints for a background check, if not already on record
UPGRADE NOTE: There are no restrictions on the number of times the Initial Superintendent Certificate may be issued. Initial Superintendent Certificate holders are not required to upgrade to the second tier Continuing Superintendent Certificate. However, if you wish to pursue the second tier certificate, you can apply once you have met the requirements to upgrade.
Upgrade and Conversion Options for Initial Principal or Program Administrator Certificates
- If you hold a valid Initial Principal or Program Administrator Certificate and meet requirements to upgrade to the Continuing Certificate you will need to complete the application to upgrade your certificate
- If you hold an expired Initial Principal or Program Administrator Certificate or do not meet the requirements to upgrade your certificate, then you will need to complete the application to convert your certificate
