Special Education Subject Matter Renewal

To renew a Special Education Subject Matter Certificate, you must meet the requirements below.
Requirements
- Hold or have held a Special Education Subject Matter Paraeducator Certificate.
- 20 clock hours of professional development.
An application to renew must NOT be submitted more than 12 months in advance of that certificate's expiration date.
For educators applying to renew an expired certificate, the 20 clock hours must be completed within the five years immediately preceding the date of application for renewal and must submit documentation of completed clock hours or equivalents to the Certification Office for review with the application.
Educators who hold a valid, dated, regular, Washington educator certificate issued by OSPI may use that certificate to apply for renewal of the subject matter certificate.
