Local Effort Assistance (LEA) is direct and flexible state funding provided to eligible districts to match voter-approved enrichment levies. These payments help school districts that have above-average tax rates due to low property valuations and therefore do not typically pass levies at the maximum levy authority. These districts are sometimes referred to as “property poor” communities. Local communities that qualify for LEA must still pass a local levy of at least $1.50/$1,000 of assessed value to be eligible for the direct cash assistance.
The LEA funding data display shows total LEA funding per FTE student, estimated for the 2025–26 school year. The map is colored from lighter shades to darker shades, showing a smaller amount of funding per FTE student to a larger amount, respectively. Hovering over each school district will show the district's estimated FTE enrollment, estimated total LEA funding, and estimated LEA funding per FTE student.
The Puget Sound is not seen in these maps, because Washington school districts’ legal boundaries are drawn over the Puget Sound.
