Learning standards for Mathematics are now formally adopted. Educators have the 26-27 school year to begin exploring, learning about, and using the newly revised standards. The standards are required to be used with students in the 27-28 school year. The learning standards are available in a Word, PDF and an Excel format. The Excel file contains a crosswalk to the Common Core State Standards adopted in 2011.

The WA Math 2026 standards are a revision of the Common Core State Standards (2011). This revisions center data science inquiry, connecting mathematics through four broad domains, focus on efficient, flexible, and accurate strategies for problem solving, and move the Standards for Mathematical Practice to a central component of mathematics teaching and learning.
The WA Math 2026 standards emphasize the Standards for Mathematical Practice to utilize multiple ways of thinking and doing mathematics and thinking about and discussing the reasonableness of answers and conclusions. Focusing on these practices increases students’ understanding of the concepts offered in the early grades for greater success in later grades.
The WA Math 2026 standards redefine mathematical fluency as the ability to apply strategies efficiently, flexibly, and accurately. This shift recognizes fluency as a product of conceptual understanding, reasoning, and strategic thinking.
The WA Math 2026 standards centralize the data science inquiry cycle. The data science inquiry process includes understanding principles of data collection, maintenance, analysis, visualizations and representations of data, inference, and interpretation and communication of results from a data set.
The WA Math 2026 standards are reorganized in all grades through four connected content areas. These domains support teaching and learning mathematics through making sense of the world, making predictions, and examining the impacts of mathematical relationships.
