The Port Townsend School District recently hosted a Media Mentorship Night, where high school students taught information literacy skills to their parents, families, and community members. Information literacy is the ability to think critically and curiously about the messages we consume, create, and engage with through a variety of forms of communication.
Mike Caulfied, a University of Washington researcher, also presented at the Port Townsend event. Caulfield created the SIFT method to use when assessing information:
- S: Stop
- I: Investigate the source
- F: Find better coverage
- T: Trace original claims
