Janis loves that she gets to experience the energy of the school environment, the magic of seeing kids enjoying their food, and promoting growth and providing energy for learning to thousands of students every day. She sees her work through an equity lens and pre-COVID she leveraged her budget to eliminate co-pays for families and implement free breakfast for all high school students. Janis embraces the opportunity provided by the pandemic to offer free meals to all kids as well as making hot meals available daily at schools, community sites, and bus stops throughout the district.
Janis says, “I learned about careers in school nutrition services when I was in college. It seemed like the perfect combination of food service and wellness coupled with the creative energy of kids. I am sustained professionally by the knowledge that each day my work directly impacts the health and academic success of the students in my district.”
