Tina sees herself as a facilitator of knowledge between students, their families, and community members, and especially during the pandemic, she has expanded traditional instruction to reach beyond the four walls of a classroom. Tina can be found working with her students in the community, in online classrooms, and on the road taking students to places with historic, cultural, and environmental significance through a computer screen. Her skill at building relationships in the community has led to over $250,000 in grant funds to support students and educators.
Tina says, “My advice to new teachers is enjoy the process of the first year of teaching. There are so many things to learn, fail at and explore. Develop strong positive relationships with your students and their families because they are the base of your support system. Find a colleague that can be a mentor for you as you develop your instructional practice.”
